Description
₹5 Komagata Maru Incident Centenary Coin (1914 – 2014) was issued by the Government of India Mint to commemorate 100 years of the Komagata Maru incident, a major event in India’s struggle for freedom and equality abroad.
In 1914, the ship Komagata Maru carrying Indian passengers was denied entry to Canada — a symbol of colonial discrimination that fueled the Indian freedom movement.
The reverse of the coin features an intricate engraving of the ship Komagata Maru with inscriptions “CENTENARY COMMEMORATION 1914 – 2014 KOMAGATA MARU INCIDENT” in English and Hindi.
The obverse shows the Ashoka Lion Capital, denomination “₹5”, and inscriptions भारत INDIA सत्यमेव जयते.
This commemorative coin honors the courage and resilience of Indians who stood against injustice and is a highly collectible patriotic issue.
